Adoption Application
Thank you for thinking about adopting a sheltie.
The adoption process begins when you submit the Adoption Application form to us. We cannot stress enough how It is important that you answer all the questions. There are no right or wrong answers and no trick questions. Your answers will help us match you up with the right rescue.
It is important, however, for you to understand that each of these dogs comes with its own life experiences. Some come from loving homes, whose owners may have passed away, or perhaps moved and couldn’t take their dog with them. Some dogs are given up for health or other personal reasons. Other dogs were abandoned and are looking for loving homes.
Once SSPSNJ gets a dog, the dog is examined by a veterinarian, spayed/neutered, and brought up to date on all its shots. With all this complete, we do our best to find the right home for the right sheltie. In the best interests of the dogs(s) we reserve the right to deny an application for any reason.
Please fill out our Adoption Application and return the form to us either via email: info@njsheltierescue.org or by mail to: Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey, 107 Broad Street, Suite 694, Hainesport, NJ 08036.
In order to be considered, RENTERS must submit their Renter’s Agreement allowing pets along with their adoption application.
The Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of NJ reserves the right to refuse any application at any time.
Relinquish Application
Need to find a home for your Sheltie?
Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of NJ understands that having to make the decision to give up your dog is very personal and often difficult. SSPSNJ has placed adoptable shelties of all ages….young and old (senior citizens) alike…even placing special needs dogs that require extra care — but in return offer lots of love.
SSPSNJ is not a shelter, but a non-profit organization dedicated to finding loving permanant homes for shelties. If you have any questions as to whether your dog can be placed, please email us at info@njsheltierescue.org. We can discuss your dog’s specific issues and help you with your decision.
Some behaviors can be modified once they are understood through some simple training techniques that you may not be aware of. We would be glad to talk with you regarding any of your issues, and perhaps help you work through some problems so that you may not have to place your dog.
Please read and complete the “Owner Reliquinish Form Application and Policy Statement”. Complete the Relinquish Application and attach proof of the dog’s current rabies innoculation. No application will be processed without proof of rabies innoculation! You can return the form to us either via email: info@njsheltierescue.org or by mail to: Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey, 107 Broad Street, Suite 694, Hainesport, NJ 08036.
Foster Application
Fostering…a very important part of rescue.
As a foster family, you will take a rescued Sheltie into your home and care for him or her as you would your own pet, providing food, shelter, companionship, basic training and exercise, arranging for any required veterinary care, and supplying generous amounts of patience and love. SSPSNJ Foster Care Providers sign a contract for each dog in their care. The fostering period can last anywhere from a few days to a month or more. Some Shelties may not get along well with other dogs, cats, or children and may take longer to place. Your evaluation of the Sheltie’s character, temperament and training level are invaluable. The more we know about a dog’s habits and behavior (positive and negative), the easier it is to match him or her to the perfect owner.
We are not a shelter or kennel, all our dogs are kept in foster homes with families who will help determine what home is right for each dog. Being a foster home can be a rewarding experience. You get to help a sheltie in its search for its permanent forever home.
Please fill out our Foster Application and return the form to us either via email: info@njsheltierescue.org or by mail to: Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey, 107 Broad Street, Suite 694, Hainesport, NJ 08036.

Volunteer Application
Volunteers…the heart and soul of rescue.
While many of our volunteers are foster parents, we have lots of opportunities to volunteer for those who cannot have foster pets (or for “failed fosters”, those who end up adopting their foster shelties!). Fundraising, transport, home checks and event planning are all options for additional volunteer opportunities. If you have a desire to help Shelties in any capacity, we will find a spot for you!
Please fill out our Volunteer Application and return the form to us either via email: info@njsheltierescue.org or by mail to: Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey, 107 Broad Street, Suite 694, Hainesport, NJ 08036.
