Shelties Available For Adoption
The adoption process begins when you submit the ADOPTION APPLICATION form to us. We cannot stress enough how It is important that you answer all the questions. There are no right or wrong answers and no trick questions. Your answers will help us match you up with the right rescue.
It is important, however, for you to understand that each of these dogs comes with its own life experiences. Some come from loving homes, whose owners may have passed away, or perhaps moved and couldn’t take their dog with them. Some dogs are given up for health or other personal reasons. Other dogs were abandoned and are looking for loving homes.
Once SSPSNJ gets a dog, the dog is examined by a veterinarian, spayed/neutered, and brought up to date on all its shots. With all this complete, we do our best to find the right home for the right sheltie.
One of these dogs might be your ‘furever’ friend.
Thank you for considering adopting one of our shelties.

For Adoption...

Meet LUCA
Luca enjoys playing fetch in the yard – we are requiring a securely fenced yard for Luca. He entertains himself playing with his toys as well – he’s a busy boy! He likes going for car rides and visiting Lowe’s or Petsmart with his family. You just have to be careful not to let him go nose to nose with any dogs, as he generally does not like other dogs. If you attended our Sheltie-Palooza this spring, Luca was there walking all over the property with one of our volunteers!
He does not like kids, so we will not place him in a home where young children live or regularly visit. He does not have great social skills when it comes to other dogs, so he will push to play to the point where a dog fight will happen. He is okay being in close proximity with other dogs in controlled situations – he ignores him. This is why we will place Luca as an only dog in a home. He is also NOT a dog that you will be able to take to the dog park for exercise. He gets along well with most people and is not overly shy.
He does have some inhibition control issues which are generally not a problem when he gets sufficient exercise. His adoptive home is expected to continue his training going forward. We will give full disclosure to anyone who is seriously interested in adopting this dog.
Meet MAYZEE
Mayzee is a 7 year old Mini Aussie/Sheltie mix. She is fearful of strangers but will come around with some treats and patience. Once she gets to know you, she is very sweet and will ask for belly rubs. She also loves to play fetch with a tennis ball or toy. She is great on a leash and ejoys her walks. We will consider active homes without a fenced yard for this dog.
We have taken Mayzee to assist another rescue organization.

Meet REX
Rex is a young male Black Labrador Retriever and Border Collie Mix. Rex is friendly, Affectionate, Playful, Smart, Athletic, Curious, Loves kisses and Funny. He is house trained, his vaccinations are up to date and he is neutered. He is good in a home with other dogs but not cats.
Rex is a happy boy who likes meeting new friends. He is 2 years old but is playful and curious like a much younger dog. He is built more like a border collie than a lab, he’s tall and leggy. His foster mom is working on his basic obedience skills and manners in the house.
This dog is a smart, active boy who needs a home who is willing to continue his training and spend time working with him. LOVES to go hiking, exploring and playing in the water. Walks well on a leash and is really quick to learn new things. Loves cuddling, giving kisses, and loves belly rubs. He would be okay with another easy going dog.
Rex is ready to go to his forever home ! We adopt to homes in NJ or reasonably close to NJ. We are requiring a securely fenced yard to adopt Rex!
We have taken Rex to assist another rescue organization.
Foster Care...
Meet ANDY
Andy is doing well in his foster home which is 1 person with other shelties. He does not do well with strangers. He is not aggressive but is extremely scared and dogs that are this scared can be unpredictable. We think he would do best eventually in a quiet home without too many people coming and going (and no kids), with a well adjusted calm dog as a companion.
Andy, we promise you, there is nothing but love and good things ahead for you.
