Shelties Available For Adoption

Thank you for considering adopting one of our shelties

The adoption process begins when you submit the ADOPTION APPLICATION form to us. We cannot stress enough how It is important that you answer all the questions. There are no right or wrong answers and no trick questions. Your answers will help us match you up with the right rescue.

It is important, however, for you to understand that each of these dogs comes with its own life experiences. Some come from loving homes, whose owners may have passed away, or perhaps moved and couldn’t take their dog with them. Some dogs are given up for health or other personal reasons. Other dogs were abandoned and are looking for loving homes.

One of these dogs

Might be your ‘furever’ friend

Once SSPSNJ gets a dog, the dog is examined by a veterinarian, spayed/neutered, and brought up to date on all its shots. With all this complete, we do our best to find the right home for the right sheltie.

MAYA update! Maya is settling into her foster home. She was scared at first but is doing much better now. She is doing well with the other 2 dogs in the home, so Maya does not need to be an only dog. She will need a securely fenced yard (at least 4 ft), partly because she was pretty scared initially, and also because she needs some work on her leash walking skills. She’s a big girl at ~40 lbs and she needs to learn not to pull. Her foster mom is working on this but it will take some time as she’s pretty determined. Obedience training in her adoptive home would be a great idea.

Maya is very, very sweet and loves to hang out in her crate. Her foster mom has found her snuggled in her crate with her blanket and the door open several times over the past few days so her adoptive home will need a place to set that up for her. She’s a little on the timid side and will startle when she hears a new noise but recovers quickly. Maya’s foster mom tells us she is a very well behaved guest in the house. She’s about 4 1/2 years old, and is a beautiful mahogany sable.

We have quite a few applications on file and will be going through those first to try to find the perfect match for Maya. We are accepting applications on her with the understanding the applications already on file will be considered first. Note that we do keep applications on file for 6 months.

Big Rescue Welcome to ALLY! Ally is a sweet 2 year spayed female who is on the bigger side.

Another update from her foster mom, about 2 year old Ally. Ally is a big girl, at ~40lbs:
Ally has been a joy in the home so far! Napping while I work! She needs some leash walking help but has so much love to give!
She may love kids a little tooo much but is leaning not to jump.
She loves tennis balls and fetching!
She loves cuddling!
She loves other dogs!
She loves car rides!

We are getting to know her in her foster home. She was very much loved and well cared for in her home but unfortunately needs a more active family to meet her needs. We have been told that she has a lot of energy and will need a nice big fenced yard to help run some of that off. More will be posted as we get to know her.
